LE PONT NEUF
A tiny world within the town
ONOMICHI U2 opened in March 2014, transforming the historic Ken’ei Uwaya No. 2 Warehouse, originally built in 1943. With the theme “A small town within the town,” it houses a hotel, restaurant, bar, café, bakery, lifestyle shop, and professional bicycle shop. The name U2 comes from the warehouse’s original name: Uwaya No. 2.

The Most Modern Facility in Setouchi.
ONOMICHI U2 was designed to create a space where the spirit of Onomichi flows seamlessly into the warehouse, transforming it into a miniature version of the town itself. Inside, the layout captures the charm of Onomichi’s small shops and narrow alleys, reimagining the warehouse as a “town”. Inspired by Onomichi’s Hondori Shopping Street, a long central passage lined with shops and cafés stretches all the way to HOTEL CYCLE. The open design encourages natural interaction between visitors and staff, while the use of wood, mortar, and steel evokes Onomichi’s traditional wooden homes and its rich shipbuilding heritage.

Onomichi City
Onomichi City, blessed with the natural harbor of the Onomichi Channel, has long thrived as a key hub for maritime transport. Its history dates back to the Heian period, when rice collected from the Bingo region was shipped from Onomichi to various destinations. During the Muromachi period, it flourished as a center of trade with the continent. In the Edo period, despite Japan’s isolation policy, Onomichi grew into an important domestic port.
